Lights, Camera, Action - One of the sites of the 2010 re-make of True Grit starring Jeff Bridges & the Blanco County Courthouse in all of its Historical Glory! Shooting began Monday, May 10 & no one really knows when they will wrap-up. Filming is set to wrap-up Wednesday, May the 12th. Historically Speaking - Blanco was the county seat from 1858 - 1891 when the county seat moved to the more centrally located Johnson City. The centerpiece of town is the Old Blanco County Courthouse, which once housed Blanco National Bank, Union Hall, a theater, library, wild west museum and much more. In May of 2010 it is one of the locations for the film remake of "True Grit" directed by the Coen brothers & starring "Jeff Bridges" Shopping - Cozy shops galour can be found in Blanco, where you are sure to find neat gifts, antiques and interesting things. Cranberry's Antiques is a popular stop while browsing the square along with many more neat and intriguing shops. Dining - For some satisfying Bar-B-Que you will want to try Riley's located just off the square. Now for some nastalgic dining you can't get much better than the Blanco Bowling Club Cafe where the pins are crashing while you tackle a mouthwatering burger. In the works along the U.S. 281 side of the square is the Uptown Blanco Restaurant where you can now enjoy a fine dinner and sometime in the near future some ballroom dancing, art galleries, etc when the renovation process is complete.
What's Happening - Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 plan to the first annual Blanco Chamber Golf Open at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club (Rockin J Ranch). The Blanco Lavender Festival is set for Friday, June 10th - Sunday, June 12th, 2011. Come enjoy all things lavender from the wine & beer to music, crafts, lavender farm tours and much more.

A Day at the Park - The town square is joined to the Blanco State Park by a two-city block path through City Park. Blanco State Park is a popular tourist destination that offers camping, RV hook-ups, tubing and swimming in the Blanco River's crystal clear water.
