Bandera"Cowboy Capital of the World"
Historically Speaking ~ Founded in 1852 as a cypress shingle camp, and site of a Mormon colony established in 1854. Make sure to visit Historic Eleventh Street where you will see the original jail, county courthouse and some of the oldest buildings in the county. In 1882 a famous scout from the U.S. Army whose name was Jose' Policarpo Rodriguez (but folks called him Polly) built a tiny picturesque chapel called "Polly's Chapel". For some Old West times make sure you visit the Frontier Times Museum with Western Art and antiques to Buffalo Bill Wild West Show posters.
What's Happening ~ Every Friday the Frontier Times Museum presents, Introducing the Horse, a Basic Horsemanship Skills Clinic. Every Saturday enjoy "Cowboys on Main" a western times display in front of the courthouse. National Day of the American Cowboy - July 25 the entire town will celebrate the horseback riding heroes of this country with a weekend celebration. The festivities include a cowboy breakfast, western arts and crafts, western music & dancing and last but not least a rodeo. Sooo, if you wanna be a Cowboy, saddle up and head to Bandera.
